Taking care of our skin is essential and in order to do that all of us take extra measures, such as applying beneficial skin products or following skin care routines. However, the first and foremost thing that is vital to know before buying a product or before flowing a skin care routine to is determine what type of skin do you have. Thus, today we will not only find out about different types of skin but also learn how to determine which types of skin you have. So, let’s scroll down and find out first what different types of skin are there.
Types of Skin:
Primarily, there are four types of skin that are Normal, Dry, Oily and Combination.
What are Normal and Dry Skin types:
If you have normal skin then you are the luckiest person! This is because normal skin do not really have the dilemma of choosing products or pondering about whether to use this skincare or that. For them it is easy to wear makeup or any other product as they neither have extreme dry or extremely oily skin. Normal skin type is not prone to easy breakouts and most of the time have a perfect T-zone.
People with Dry skin types feel tight throughout the day and often feel flaky. They always need to apply heavy moisturizer to maintain moisture on the skin. Dry skin causes an additional layer of dead skin cells which needs to be exfoliated in order to let moisturizer settle in.
What are the Oily and Combination skin types:
People with Oily skin always have oil on their cheeks and T-zone. They find it hard to wear makeup as it tends to merge away. Due to excess oil they develop open and clogged pores which further lead to breakouts or acne.
Combination types of skin has a rather oily T-zone and the cheeks are more towards dryness. Also, they, too, feel less need to apply heavy moisturizer or lotion and most of the time the problematic area remains the forehead where breakouts or acne pop up.
How to determine your skin type:
Method 1. You need to clean your face or wash it with a mild face wash and pat dry it. Now do not apply any cream, moisturizer etc. for another 1 hour. After an hour or so examine closely for any natural shine or tightness on your cheek, nose, forehead and chin. If you find shine all over the face, then it is likely to be oily. If those areas are tight or stretchy then you have dry skin. If your cheeks feel stretchy and there is shine on the T-zone, then it indicates you have combination skin.
This method is more beneficial to differentiate between oily and dry skin. All you need to do is wake-up in the morning and take a blotting paper or tissue paper. Blot it on all over the face and check for oil. The amount of oil on the paper will help you determine the type of skin. If there is no oil at all on the sheet then your skin is tend to be dry, in case the oil is only on the forehead area then it’s likely to be combination. And if, you get oil from all over the face then your skin is likely to be oily.
